Voordeel: volgens de plastisch chirurgen is het de eenvoudigste operatie.

Nadelen:

1. Alle risico's en klachten die worden genoemd op deze website, gelden zéér zeker voor vrouwen met borstkanker.

2. Als je kanker hebt (gehad), heb je alle energie nodig om te herstellen van deze ziekte. Ook chemo en bestraling zijn een enorm aanslag voor je lichaam, waardoor je geen energie overhoudt voor afweer tegen de chemische stoffen belasting. 

3. Als tegelijk met de amputatie van de borst, implantaten worden geplaatst, is de huid niet voldoende opgerekt. Hierdoor wordt de druk op de implantaten erg groot.

De gevolgen:

• Veel eerder scheuren van de implantaten

• Ook de huid van de borst kan scheuren

• Implantaat kan verschuiven

Vraag daarom altijd om een expander. Een expander is een ballonnetje dat met lucht of water gevuld wordt. Elke week wordt het bijgevuld, zodat het oprekken van de borsthuid geleidelijk aan gaat. Net zo lang tot er voldoende ruimte is voor een borstimplantaat.

4. Moeilijker te controleren of er terugkeer van borstkanker is.

5. Als er bestraald moet worden, moet minimaal een jaar gewacht worden met het plaatsen van implantaten.

6. Kapselcontractie.

7. Erg veel heroperaties. Volgens de FDA 45% binnen 7 jaren.

Wij zijn echter van mening dat het veel beter is om te kiezen voor een andere optie voor borstvergroting i.p.v. borstimplantaten. Meldpunt Klachten Siliconen is er immers voor aan het vechten dat de borstprothesen van de markt worden gehaald, totdat bewezen is dat ze veilig zijn.

• Implantaten houden een deel van de bestraling tegen

• Verhoogde kans op complicaties

• Weefselveranderingen

• Implantaten moeten worden verwijderd voor de bestraling, 

• Afbraakproducten van de verwijderde implantaten bemoeilijken de analyse

• Door reacties van siliconen op het weefsel worden potentieel gevaarlijke moleculen gevormd, die het therapeutisch effect van bestralen teniet kunnen doen.

Borstamputaties vaak onnodig. >>

Operaties bij vrouwen met borstkanker waarbij de borsten worden gespaard, zijn net zo veilig als borstamputaties. 

Het is in de meeste gevallen van borstkanker dan ook niet nodig om een of beide borsten af te zetten.

Het AD schrijft over onderzoek onder leiding van Nederlanders dat vandaag wordt gepresenteerd in het toonaangevende wetenschappelijke tijdschrift The Lancet. Onder leiding van het Nederlands Kanker Instituut-Antoni van Leeuwenhoekziekenhuis werd 22 jaar lang internationaal onderzoek gedaan naar borstkanker. 

De conclusie is dat de overlevingskansen bij beide types operaties exact gelijk zijn.

Volgens de onderzoekers is het niet meer nodig om vrouwen onnodig te verminken met een amputatie. 

Zo'n operatie heeft veel psychische gevolgen.

Erfelijk

'Zowel de artsen als de vrouwen voelden zich niet altijd veilig bij een besparende operatie.' Ook nu zijn er nog behandelaars die uit veiligheidsoverwegingen voor amputatie kiezen, terwijl dat niet altijd nodig is. Bij vrouwen jonger dan 35 jaar, met erfelijke borstkanker of met kanker die zich in de borst heeft verspreid is een besparende operatie overigens niet mogelijk.
