Breast Implant Illness ofwel borstimplantaatziekte is een nieuwe benaming voor lichamelijke symptomen die aan siliconen borstimplantaten zijn gerelateerd. 

Eerder waren de klachten bekend onder de namen: 

• Auto-immune inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) >> 

• Human Adjuvant Disease (HAD) >>   

• Silicone implant incompatibility syndrome (SIIS)

• Prosthetic Mammoplasty Sensitivity Syndrome (PMSS) (wordt zelden genoemd)

Eigenlijk kun je zeggen dat al deze ziekten onder de paraplu van Breast Implant illness gecategoriseerd kunnen worden.
