Voor transgender vrouwen is een borstvergroting een van de belangrijkste stappen om het vrouwgevoel te kunnen ervaren. Toch wordt ook deze groep niet goed voorgelicht over de mogelijke gevolgen en risico's van siliconen. De kans op heroperaties is bij deze groep groter (net als bij amputaties), waarschijnlijk omdat de druk op de implantaten groter is, vanwege de beperkte rekbaarheid van de huid. Je kunt de risico's vergelijken met vrouwen met borstkanker en BRCA-1 gen. Er is ook ALCL (kanker van het immuunsysteem) ontdekt bij transgenders. >>

Het Meldpunt begrijpt erg goed dat deze groep moeilijk zonder implantaten kan. Daarom adviseren we deze vrouwen om jaarlijks hun implantaten te laten controleren op scheuren door middel van een echo of MRI.

Ook zou een jaarlijkse check-up door een huisarts of internist verstandig zijn, om te kijken of sprake is van systeemklachten (zoals spierpijn, gewrichtsklachten, vergeetachtigheid, niet op woorden kunnen komen enz.)

Laat je ook voorlichten over vergroten met lichaamseigen vet of andere methoden. Met lichaamseigen vet kun je meestal geen grote borst creëren, maar laat je hierover goed voorlichten.

Belangrijk is ook om je leefstijl aan te passen zodat je lichaam beter bestand is tegen siliconen. Wat eten betreft, lees over dit antiontstekingsdieet. Eet dus puur en gezond, zonder pakjes en zakjes, beperk suiker, alcohol, witmeelproducten (zoals brood en pasta). Neem supplementen.
